How to make white playdough – that’s also gluten free for any kids who have to deal with food allergies! Add glitter to make it *sparkly*
Oh this one is so fun. We’re doing units on Arctic animals right now (just published all of our polar bear activities here if you’re interested!) and needed to make some playdough for our sensory table area.

A shift that might help you too…
I know this sounds kind of “common sense”, but I recently had a moment. I wanted to have their sensory table set up for them on Sunday night so we could just open it up, play and explore on Monday morning when we started our new unit.
BUT we’ve since shifted so the weight of setting all of the centers isn’t solely on me.
Instead, on Mondays, I have simple things planned out for us to fill the sensory bin with, but the kids actually do all of it with me. It really helps because we can work on it together and they can have some great hands-on learning practice through these real life activities. BUT it also helps them to take pride in the sensory bin, and I think it helps them love playing with it more!
So, all that to say…make this white playdough. Make it with your kids. It’s easy, I promise. Put it with some little arctic animal figurines and some glass beads for “icebergs” and enjoy the free play!
Watch this quick video so you can see how easy it is:

White Playdough Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup salt
- 1 TBSP cream of tartar
- 1 TBSP melted coconut oil
- 1 cup boiling water
- Glitter
- essential oil (optional)
- Mix cornstarch, salt, and cream of tartar in a medium mixing bowl.
- Add in the melted coconut oil and boiling water.
- Mix well.
- Add in glitter (optional but SO cute and fun) and 2-3 drops of kid-safe essential oil if you’re using it. It just makes it smell great and can make it a deeper sensory experience!
*NOTE : the playdough will solidify more as it cools. If it’s still too sticky for your taste, add some more cornstarch, 1 TBSP at a time.
Can you do me a favor? Would you pin this on Pinterest to save for others and share for later? That would mean so much to me – thank you!
